Rev Alan Jonas, Vicar
It has been a privilege and delight to be Vicar of Westcott for 19 years. Previously I was a senior teacher in an education project on the St Hellier Estate in Merton. I probably knew soon after coming to Christian faith as a teenager that one day I would be 'ordained'.
I have been married to Jenny, my huge support, companion and best friend for 37 years. We have two lovely daughters – Anna, married to Glyn and Freya, married to Dave. They are both artistic (probably Jenny’s fault) – Anna in Pilates and dance. Freya sings and plays piano as well as other instruments - she is one half of the famous (well famous in Devon) folk duo “Harbottle and Jonas”.
I was brought up on a large council estate in Orpington, but my family’s roots are in the hallowed area of NE London, hence I was “born” into being a Tottenham supporter.
I try to keep fit – jogging, and cycling. I enjoy art exhibitions, opera (again, Jenny’s fault), and box-sets, films and a game of cribbage at home. I listen to a range of music – classical, rock, jazz, world. I try to read as much as I can.
I am ever grateful for the loving presence of God, known through prayer and worship, that has guided me over the years and brings peace and strength.
